1989 Generation Initiative Joins the EU Open Day
LONDON, 05 May 2017. The 1989 Generation Initiative takes part in the Inter-Institutional Open Doors Day of the European Institutions in Brussels, Saturday May 6 from 12am – 1:30pm.
Barbara Aubin, Head of Content, represents the Initiative at the European Committee of the Regions to participate in the discussion Listening (to) Europe: Experiences and prospects of pro-European initiatives.
Together with representatives of WhyEurope, Pulse of Europe, Stand up for Europe and Komitet Obrony Demokracji (Committee for the Defence of Democracy, KOD), the 1989 Generation Initiative discusses the challenges and future prospects of EU citizens’ engagement. The debate is lead by Markku Markkula, President of the European Committee of the Regions. More information on the event can be found here: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/listening-to-europe
In February 2017 the Initiative’s second policy cycle kicked off. Over 100 young Europeans, as well as policy experts and researchers, came together in London for the Launch Conference ‘Tackling Populism: Hope over Fear’. Participants looked particularly at populism’s underlying causes and sought to develop policy proposals tackling these instead of superficial symptoms. Ideas are currently being refined in a series of webinars. Presentation of the final reform proposals is planned to take place in front of an audience of EU officials, journalists, researchers, NGOs, and other youth organisations in Brussels, autumn 2017.
